England made an outstanding start to their day’s play, taking full advantage of favourable overhead conditions and scoring runs quickly with their pace attack. West Indies batsmen faced more difficulty keeping up.

Shoaib Bashir completed his maiden five-wicket haul at Trent Bridge and bowled brilliantly in both sessions – particularly the second.

Timeline

Since England already won their series against Windies 3-0, England will look to wrap up an impeccable 3-0 whitewash in Lord’s in the final Test match – James Anderson will bid farewell as an international red-ball bowler after having taken more than 700 wickets during his time playing international cricket and will want his final red-ball outing at Lord’s to end on a positive note.

England-West Indies cricket rivalry has long been captivating, and that appears set to continue into this century. Both sides meet regularly in thrilling Test matches as well as One-Day Internationals and Twenty20 Internationals; their rivalry has provided fans worldwide with many memorable moments over time.

So far, both teams are playing outstanding cricket; England are currently dominating with an advantage of 77 runs; however, West Indies batsmen have performed admirably and could still potentially pull off a victory.

England will look to maintain their dominance against West Indies in the second session. They already made an excellent start by scoring 226 runs; now, however, they must maintain this momentum to post an impressive total. Jos Buttler has been in impressive form and could add another big score to his name.

This will be a close contest, so both sides need to play excellent cricket. England are in an advantageous position and should maintain their momentum throughout the day; Windies however have struggled initially but are showing signs of recovery as play progresses.

West Indies have plenty of experience at the highest level, but lack the consistency required for sustained play. While they have seen occasional flashes of brilliance from young players like Jason Holder, none has managed to keep his form over an entire Test match. Although there have been promising performances from young players such as Holder, it remains to be seen if they will become winners and start winning sessions consistently.

Match 1

Lord’s Cricket Ground will host the opening Test match of this three-match series on July 10th. England are looking to turn around their recent defeat to India in five matches while West Indies recently stunned Australia in red-ball cricket with an emphatic win.

The Windies will look to recreate their success against Australia in this matchup against England, taking full advantage of home advantage and their history against England in Kraigg Brathwaite’s squad’s past performance against them to secure victory and claim another victory against Kraigg Brathwaite’s opponents.

Day 1 was an uncontested victory for England, as their batsmen scored an overwhelming total. Joe Root scored his 32nd Test century while Mark Wood continued his excellent bowling attack – picking up two wickets during the last session to reduce West Indies to 282 all out.

England began the day on an encouraging note as they made an immediate start in chasing down an impressive total. Although Duckett and Pope fell early, Joe Root stepped in as the wicket-keeper to provide stability; together with Shamar Joseph he shared a 71-run partnership and gave their hosts some hope in this match.

Windies were able to post an impressive total in their first innings as they reached 299 for four, led by centuries from Alick Athanaze (84) and Kavem Hodge (120). England bowling miserably in their second innings saw them bowled out for only 143 runs.

England are expected to make several adjustments to their XI for this match, including Dan Lawrence and Dillon Pennington being dropped from the squad, with Gus Atkinson debuting for England for the first time ever. Chris Woakes returns after missing the previous game due to injury; veteran pacer James Anderson will play his final Test match and hopes to end it on a high note by collecting some more wickets.

Match 2

As T20 cricket winds down, England shift their attention back to red-ball cricket and look forward to hosting West Indies for three Test matches against Kraigg Brathwaite-led visitors from West Indies in red ball cricket – hoping that Kraigg Brathwaite can bring his long form experience home and end their run of Test defeats at home.

The West Indies should expect the first Test at Trent Bridge to present them with a tough challenge, hoping that similar resilience to that seen against Australia earlier in 2018 is displayed once more. A series loss would be devastating for them.

England’s revamped fast bowling attack will be led by Chris Woakes’ return from Pakistan, having found new strength after an underwhelming stint there. Woakes will be joined by Gus Atkinson and Shoaib Bashir – making this challenge for tourists even greater!

West Indies will also miss Kemar Roach for their remaining two Test matches due to a stiff left hamstring, as he has been an instrumental member since returning from injury and adding six wickets in five matches this season for Windies.

On a pitch which offered very little assistance for batsmen, Joe Root and Harry Brook both registered centuries to set England up for victory in their second innings – only for them both to fall away quickly, losing seven wickets for only 96 runs before eventually being dismissed for 384.

West Indies top order started their chase for safety off strongly with a 77-run stand between Kraigg Brathwaite and John Campbell; but missed opportunities ultimately cost them, leading them to fall to 265-7 at tea on day four.

Match 3

As T20 fever comes to an end, all eyes turn back towards Test cricket and England take on West Indies at Lord’s for their opening Test game of this series. This match will also serve as James Anderson’s last red-ball outing – taking 714 wickets!

Windies fans looking to avenge their T20 series defeat are hoping that an England team led by Kraigg Brathwaite – who has excelled with both bat and ball this series – can show resilience against them when the matchup comes up on Saturday evening. Joe Root and Harry Brook will likely play key roles for England against Windies.

England will look to take advantage of the clear weather conditions and use ball to help put Windies under pressure on day three, although they must remain wary of Jason Holder and Alick Athanaze, both who performed admirably against India earlier this year.

As the second session begins, England look strong at 147-2 with Joe Root and Ollie Pope looking strong with an unbroken partnership of 118 runs between them so far. Both batsmen will hope to carry that momentum into tomorrow morning’s session.

Zak Crawley has been forced to withdraw from the rest of the game following being examined by a physio, after experiencing finger injury during a catch against India.

Gus Atkinson will add extra bite to England’s bowling attack when he steps in as Dan Lawrence’s replacement in their drawn Ashes series against Australia last summer. Alongside Atkinson will be new recruits Shoaib Bashir and Chris Woakes who all join together for this first Test match against New Zealand.
