Atalanta Bc Vs Bayer Leverkusen Stats is a be
Bayer Leverkusen’s remarkable 51-game unbeaten run finally came to an end as Atalanta claimed their maiden Europa League trophy thanks to Ademola Lookman’s hat-trick in Atalanta’s 3-0 win and Ademola Lookman’s four goals scored against them.
Atalanta press high up the pitch and force a turnover as Kovar attempts to play through Toure. However, his chipped effort doesn’t even come close.
1. Goals scored
Atalanta began their comeback after an initially slow start, dominating possession and forcing mistakes from Leverkusen with their high press, leaving Xabi Alonso’s side unprepared and suffering at Atalanta’s hands. They have some excellent players such as former Arsenal star Granit Xhaka and young Florian Wirtz that make their football difficult for most teams to understand as well as play against.
Gian Piero Gasperini’s side opened the scoring after 12 minutes when Teun Koopmeiners won a corner and sent it into the box via Davide Zappacosta who then played Ademola Lookman unmarked at the back post to score with ease against Edmond Tapsobe.
Lookman was incredible for Atalanta today, being active all night around the box and his work rate being remarkable. His second goal capped an excellent team move as he outwitted Xhaka to score from close range and complete an outstanding team move with his finish.
Atalanta are dominating and the game appears to be nearing an end, forcing German champions Bayern Munich to concede corners, creating an uncomfortable last 15 minutes for Bundesliga winners.
Leverkusen have made few efforts to break forward. Yet they remain dangerous on the counterattack; Sead Kolasinac appears out of place while his partnership with Jeremie Frimpong may prove tenuous at best.
Leverkusen are still hopeful their season won’t end here despite defeat; they remain second in the table and can still finish in the top four, and have the opportunity to go on another European run; although unlikely to match up to Barcelona’s heroics of last season in terms of Champions League heroics, beating Atalanta will make for an exciting end-of-season series for them; provided they improve finishing, it should make for another thrilling campaign from one of Europe’s premier squads and will certainly return as contenders next year – they certainly possess all three elements for success: players, manager and record!
2. Goals conceded
Atalanta won this Europa League match 3-0 and ended Bayer Leverkusen’s 51-game unbeaten run thanks to Ademola Lookman’s superb hat-trick, giving their Invincibles record season a fitting end and Atalanta claiming their inaugural trophy under Gian Piero Gasperini.
The home team applied such intense pressure that the Germans were forced into errors. Granit Xhaka gave away possession to Matteo Ruggeri who found Matteo Lookman who headed a finishing finish after 12 minutes courtesy of David Zappacosta’s dribbling into the box and playing Lookman to finish at back post with back post finish from David Zappacosta; former Everton, Fulham and Leicester player then continued terrorising Edmond Tapsoba by scoring another spectacular curling strike against him by 26 minute.
With 14 minutes remaining in the match, Leverkusen had fallen far short. A mistake from their side allowed Zappacosta to break free down the right, past one defender before curving a beautiful right-footed strike into the far corner for what proved to be the winner. While Leverkusen did show glimpses of their usual ability, ultimately falling by a comfortable margin.
Atalanta players and fans were overcome with delight after hearing that Atalanta had won their inaugural European trophy – marking a historic first for this venerable Italian club. Bayer Leverkusen will rue this final, as their 51-game unbeaten run came to an abrupt halt with their 3-0 loss against Serie A side Napoli. A remarkable performance by an even better team will be necessary if they wish to return to Europe’s pinnacle once more. Though they had an impressive streak this season, expect that next summer they may try again. Losing was always likely and now is just a matter of how they respond to this disappointment – there remains much to be proud of here, though; surely Xabi Alonso’s brilliant team will find a way out and return to top form?
3. Assists
Atalanta have completely dominated the first half, their intensity and quality of play making it impossible for Bayer Leverkusen to find any form of rhythm. Furthermore, Atalanta have employed clever tactic with their forward players, taking every opportunity to move up whenever spaces open up in attack.
At the other end, Lookman attempted to break free down the left but Leverkusen defender Tapsoba grabbed him by the shirt and prevented him from running clear. Lookman shot wide of target then looked tired as he was taken off for Victor Boniface.
57 mins: Boniface has another shot from distance but his shot hits Musso and goes harmlessly wide of goal. There’s little hope of Leverkusen breaking through Atalanta’s defence and their lack of creativity is leaving their supporters frustrated.
64 mins: Zappacosta drives slowly down the right and wins a free-kick deep within Leverkusen territory. He then sends in a low cross for Xhaka but unfortunately the Swiss midfielder fails to reach it with his head, and so another chance has gone by.
65 minutes: Xhaka attempts to play Florian Wirtz into the box but his attempt is too high and Leverkusen are unable to regain possession. Atalanta goalkeeper Juan Musso has rarely been tested during this match and has proven himself formidable throughout.
72 minutes: Substitutes Patrik Schick and Nathan Tella replace Jeremie Frimpong and Florian Wirtz respectively as Xabi Alonso attempts to revitalize his side. Unfortunately it comes too late as Atalanta cruise to victory.
Atalanta players celebrate in front of their adoring fans as they lift the Europa League trophy for the first time ever – ending a long European drought and making history with Atalanta in doing so! Atalanta celebrates with great fervor as they mark this momentous momentous win in history!
4. Corners
As the first half comes to a close, Atalanta appears as the more direct, well-drilled team. They’ve exploited right flank space effectively and created opportunities, but so far haven’t managed to breach Leverkusen’s solid defense.
As the second half begins, both teams make adjustments. Victor Boniface replaces Josip Stanisic for Bayer Leverkusen while Giorgio Scalvini replaces Sead Kolasinac at Atalanta.
Xabi Alonso has made changes in midfield to improve his team’s dynamic in this period, including Granit Xhaka making a move down the left to look for Florian Wirtz but instead losing possession. Despite numerous attempts from Granit Xhaka he fails to connect and thus gives away possession.
Atalanta again has an opportunity, as Emmanuel Frimpong makes progress down the right. The Nigerian attempted to beat Leverkusen defender Ederson, but Ederson used his frame and strength to ease him off the ball and help prevent an attempt by Frimpong to run into the box but unfortunately his attempt went well over the bar.
Atalanta’s Jeremy Koopmeiners was booked for an aggressive foul on Leverkusen’s Leo Wirtz, as the latter attempted to skin him with his feet. Koopmeiners’ yellow card seems key for Xabi Alonso’s side.
Paddy Power offers excellent odds for over 4.5 Leverkusen corners at 1.50, especially given their recent strong performance. Over 2.5 Atalanta cards at 1.87 are also worthy investments as Gasperini’s side has conceded over six fouls per game over their past three contests.
Atalanta have just won a free kick 35 yards out from goal! Emmanuel Frimpong passes to Koopmeiners who flicks it into the box – leaving Xabi Alonso’s men no chance to clear it and they must settle for a corner kick instead.
